About Rakshabandhan

Meaning of Rakshabandhan

“Raksha Bandhan” is derived from Sanskrit, in the literal sense which means “the bond of protection, obligation, or care”. The word Rakshabandhan can be split into 2 parts “Raksha” and “Bandhan”. Raksha means “to protect” pointing towards the protection aspect of siblings relationship. The term “Bandhan” refers to “to tie” indicating the practice of tying a Rakhi at brother’s wrist. In return, the brother gives a gift to his sister.

In the meantime, to stop bleeding Draupadi takes a piece of cloth from her saree and wraps Lord Krishna’s wound. In returned Lord Krishna promised to protect her and he does so when she was being disrobed (The process of removing cloths) and abused in Kouravas sabha. Based on this mythological tale, The practice of Rakshabandhan started.

Shayari (Hindi)

shayari on rakshabandhan
